Hotel Es Princep is a purpose-built five star hotel located on a sleepy corner of Old Town, in the Sa Calatrava district; a predominantly residential area. The hotel is owned by a Majorcan family hoping to echo the grandeur of a Mallorca manor house with elements of authentic Majorcan lifestyle. Architect Elias Torres has done an excellent job in bringing tradition and contemporary together. Its height and colours together with the floor-to-ceiling window front, blends perfectly with its older neighbours. Local sourced stone and wood, make the foundation of the interior, giving it a sleek contemporary feel. The carefully selected furniture and decor adds balance and infuse it with just the right level of Balearic heritage. And the high-tech details makes it evident, Es Princep was conceived with the 21st century traveller in mind.

The 68 rooms are stylishly decorated with a light, minimalistic aesthetic. The king sized beds and the crisp white bed linen with good quality pillows are inviting as is the spacious shower and the stylish work space with fresh flowers. The hi-tech details are on point with smart TV, USB ports, high-speed wifi and digital room controls. The most impressive element, is housekeeping twice a day. The cleaning round is complemented with an evening round to prepare the room for the night, which includes oversized robes and comfy slippers, cold beverages, a little bedside treat along with in invitation to breakfast in bed (at additional cost).

It’s little details like this that makes a stay memorable.

The hotel has a privileged position, just above the fortified walls of Baluard Es Príncep, with panorama views of the sea and Old Town. Guests can easily alternate between navigating through cozy backstreets and inhaling the salty air from the seafront promenade. Both appealing options, when the city sights are on the agenda. For sun seekers, the golden sandy city beach, Ca'n Pere Antoni, with its complimentary ocean breeze is a stone’s throw away. However, the Es Princep infinity pool with breathtaking views and the convenience of cocktails and snacks at the snap of your fingers, makes decisions easy.

Sore feet or pamper-hungry visitors will appreciate Es Princep’s in-house spa, Cocô Spa Oasis, with an impressive 18 metre pool, jacuzzi, a dry salt cabin, Turkish bath and sauna, treatment rooms and a fully equipped gym. Unwind in plush robes with a glass of cava in hand while deciding on where to satisfy your tastebuds next.

Palma’s culinary scene is thriving and offer a wide selection of cuisines, ample for most palates. Es Princep has made big efforts to compete in the big league and deserves a mention on tasty places to visit. Their fine dining concept at Bala Roja, is overseen by award-winning chef Andreu Genestra, former chef at elBulli. The restaurant serves traditional recipes made from local produce with a contemporary twist.

The mixologists, descending from Spain’s hottest bar scene, serves up both old classics and innovative mixtures in swanky cocktail bar Gremium. And Almaq, the rooftop bar, invites guests and locals alike, to enjoy lighter dishes and beverages from midday to late. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sun set to toe-tapping tunes with Palma’s sparkling bay, twinkling in the distance.

Palma de Mallorca has evolved as a destination in its own right, offering year-round mild climate and a relaxed lifestyle with an even mix of culture, entertainment, architecture, gastronomy, art and design.

I travel frequently to Palma, for leisure and work, and I’m the first to admit I’m a fussy traveller. I like premium, convenience and attention to detail and service. It’s those things combined that set hotels apart from the competition. Hotel Es Princep has made quite a name for themselves, since their launch in 2018. With a respectful sixth place on TripAdvisor and a 4,7 score on Google, they should be pleased. Their marketing team is successfully utilising digital platforms, carefully targeting a trend savvy and well-heeled audience. It’s difficult to find flaws, I must say, even when I’m asked to. They’ve carefully put thought and effort in the structure, interior design and details. Weighing in the amenities; a rooftop terrace, an infinity pool, a spa, two restaurants, a knowledgeable mixologist and I think it’s fair to say that they deserve their prestigious five star. And to cap it all, Hotel Es Princep is a proud member of Leading Hotels Of The World, the only hotel in Palma to date. Well done.
